Launch of The Green Fashion Competition
Amsterdam International Fashion Week (AIFW) and the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality have joined forces for The Green Fashion Competition: A design contest in token of the International Year of Biodiversity.
The competition launch will take place on the 16th of July 2010 during the 13th edition of AIFW. In honour of which Kentroy Yearwood (art director at INTOXICA) will present his new sustainable collection RANGAKU in a specially d1esigned pavilion in the Westerpark (Amsterdam).
The Green Fashion Competition
The Green Fashion Competition is a design contest wherein participants are stimulated to think about societal
responsible entrepreneurship in the fashion industry. Everyone with a vision on ‘the future of fashion’ can register as an individual or team for the competition up until the 13th of July. Conditions and more information concerning (enrolment for) The Green Fashion Competition can be found on www.amsterdamfashionweek.com/greenfashion.
Merle Deterink (Program Director at AIFW): “Supporting sustainable fashion initiatives is essential for AIFW, as we aim to stimulate and strengthen the Dutch fashion industry. This is why we are searching for future oriented fashion entrepreneurs; entrepreneurs who are able to create fashion while sustaining biodiversity. Manners in which this can be achieved are for example by using local produce or sustainable materials.”
AIFW and the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality aim to compile a useful ‘prize package’ with which the competition winners can succesfully establish themselves within the market. The Green Fashion Competition will provide young entrepreneurs with workshops in Business and Creation, a platform during the 14th edition of AIFW and expertise from and connection with the AIFW network as well as substantial cash prizes: The first prize is €25.000 and the second prize is €15.000.
The jury
A professional jury will judge the whole course of the competition. The jury consists of pioneer in sustainable fashion Kentroy Yearwood (INTOXICA), publicist and fashion journalist Georgette Koning (NRC Handelsbald, Nrc.Next), Senior Banker Manolo Marquez (Fortis Bank Nederland / ABN AMRO), a specialist in sustainable development (CREM) and an expert from the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality.
The launch
Several looks which elaborate Kentroy Yearwood’s new direction will be presented during the launch of The Green Fashion Competition on the 16th of July. The presentation will be Yearwood’s debut in the Netherlands, having held past presentations in Japan and Paris. The collection RANGAKU shows the possibilities of sustainable fashion such as using local and excessive (waste) materials, organic cotton, and new and clean ‘washings’ and treatments. The pavilion serves as inspiration and education and offers an insight into the innovative production processes that Yearwood facilitates. The launch is open to public and registration is possible through the AIFW website.
